Cindy Blackman Santana- "Give the drummer some"

 

The woman behind Lenny Kravitz drum set and Santana drum kit and by the way wife of Carlos Santana give us a new work less fusion and more song oriented. By her side she has the faithful husband Karlos and also some guys like Jon McLaughlin, Kirk Hammet, Vernon Reid to produce a hell of an album. From the opener , a cover version of “Imagine” to the more melodic “You don't wanna break my heart” Cindy Blackman offers us her musical vision. But on the contrary to her husband's works she prefers some more jazz/ fusion oriented patterns as we listen at."We came to play" with John McLaughlin where improvisation and musicality burst out along with creativity, exploiting hers and her guests' talents to maximum. She handles all vocals with ease but her social/ political awareness is equally strong to her musical talents as we can listen to "Social justice" with her husband's participation and "Evolution,revolution" with the participation of Hammet/Reid. A strong album balanced between musical indulgence and good taste, old fashion songwriting, is an unexpected surprise that will please fans of fusion and rock.

 Armored saint- "Punching the sky"(Metal Blade)

 

When talking about US power metal in our days ARMORED SAINT is the name that comes first in mind. This time they come with an album more in your face and at the same time more different. They have this subtle way to tell you that power is not the only way to produce metal songs. “Lone wolf” and “Bite don’t bark” are among these songs that you think you have heard everything and AS makes you feel like you have to reread the book. From the opener “Standing on the shoulder of giants” with its tribal metal rhythm that to be honest didn’t like watching the video but like it isolated at its sonic approach to the more thrash-y “Attention span” the spirit of a band that refuses to be defined by its genre is here. A band who writes after all these years songs like "Missile to gun" and "Lone wolf" must be on metal steroids and if you catch them live, you'll understand what i mean. Especially Bush is definitely the front man of my generation, high on metal dopamine ,exploding each moment, in every word, in every line, in every damn chorus, painting the song with all kinds of sentiments, been metal,tribal,alternative and most of all performing in every song, like it is his last performance. The band is on fire producing first rate metal music that will attract even those who are not confined in the metal genre borders. Give yourself a treat and listen to one of the best metal albums of the decade.

 Billy the kid & The regulators- "It is what it is"

Sometimes the blues know exactly how  to talk to the tormented soul or to be more accurate το find the right words to describe sorrow and happiness, that's why we call them the blues. When i first listen to "It is what it is' i thought from the opener "I can't help myself" this is a real mojo moving album hope the rest is at the same level. After finishing the listening I must definitely say yes and recommend. 

Diverse, listen to the Southern blues "I got the blues', the rocking "Stepping stone', the more funky "Everyday people" the album is full of echoes from Tom Petty to BB King, and the Skynyrd along with all the Stax and Muscle Shoals references. Blues, classic rock but most of all STAX and soul are giving a blend that you need to be heartless not to be touched by it. Billy the kid & The regulators are coming from Pitchburgh and know their craft bloody well. Great stuff to ease our soul.

Μια παρέα εφήβων στη Λίμα, βιώνει τις συνέπειες ενός σχολικού αστείου. Σε αντίθεση με την αντίστοιχη ιστορία του Κούντερα, οι ήρωες του βιβλίου στη δεκαετία του 90, ζουν σε μια ταραγμένη πόλη, σε ένα περιβάλλον που τα πάντα είναι σχετικά και η χώρα τελεί σε μια ακόμα υπό διαμόρφωση συνθήκη. 

Τρομοκρατία και αντίστοιχες κυβερνητικές τακτικές δημιουργούν την ιστορία του ενός εκ των ηρώων, που το φάντασμα του αξιωματικού πατέρα του, υπονομεύει τη ζωή του, σε ένα διαρκή αγώνα να σταθεί αντάξιος του, ήρωας στο αυστηρό ,περιβάλλον του Καθολικού σχολείου. Ο δεύτερος ήρωας, αναγνωρίζει την ομοφυλοφιλία του και ανδρώνεται μέσα από την ίδια ιστορία, αποδεικνύοντας, ότι η έννοια του ανδρισμού, δεν έχει πραγματικά σχέση με τις σεξουαλικές επιλογές. Η ρημαγμένη οικογένεια του τρίτου, με τον αλκοολικό πατέρα, την πρόνοια και την μητέρα που πέθανε από καρκίνο, συνηγορούν στην πιο φιλική στον αναγνώστη περσόνα, του καταφερτζή που κρατά τη θέση του ενήλικα στη ζωή μιας διαλυμένης οικογένειας. Ο τελευταίος ήρωας, κυνηγός του πραγματικού έρωτα, στο μεταίχμιο που ο κομπασμός γίνεται πραγματικότητα, με την πρώτη πραγματική φιλενάδα, θα είναι και ο καταλύτης μιας ιστορίας, ισορροπιών, στην άσκησης της εξουσίας στον σχολικό και τον εξωσχολικό χώρο.

Ένα αστείο στο σχολείο, μια καθηγήτρια αυστηρών αρχών, με το δικό της φορτίο, αποτυχιών και προβλημάτων και μια παρέα εφήβων, που μπροστά στην απόγνωση της δημόσιας διαπόμπευσης, ξεκινούν ένα επικίνδυνο παιχνίδι, με τη νομιμότητα, την σκληρότητα και την εισαγωγή στον πραγματικό κόσμο. Ο Ρονκαλιόλο, απογειώνει το μυθιστόρημα, με πυκνή πλοκή βασισμένη σε χαρακτήρες οι οποίοι αποκαλύπτουν το παρελθόν τους, τα κίνητρα τους αλλά ταυτόχρονα εξελίσσονται αλλάζοντας ρόλους. Ένας θάνατος, μια απαγωγή, μια Λίμα στο έλεος των διακοπών ρεύματος και του αντάρτικου και μια παρέα εφήβων , που ανοίγουν την πόρτα από το σχολικό περιβάλλον και τις φάρσες της σχολικής αίθουσας, στην πραγματική παραβατικότητα και τις συνέπειες της, όταν και όπως υπάρξουν. 

Δυνατή Λατινοαμερικάνικη λογοτεχνία, βασισμένη σε στέρεους χαρακτήρες και έντονο συναισθηματικό κόσμο, που η αληθοφάνεια της ιστορίας ενισχύει το τελικό αποτέλεσμα.

 Allman Betts band- "Bless your heart"

The great Allman  Brothers legacy continues through this collaboration between their sons ( Dickie Betts and Greg Allmans) . "Bless your heart" is the second of this ban and is a joy for every Southern fan. Not so much in free form as the original Allman albums, it has lengthy versions that got all the ingredients that made Allman Brothers great. The guitars are simply astonishing, the songwriting top notch, the performances of the highest caliber. The difference between Allman Bets and the usual Southern rock bad is that they are not another jam band. They write songs like “Manolia”, "Southern rain", “Ashes of my dead lovers” , 'Congratulations", "Savannah's dream", laid back rockers, or gothic Southern stories that captivate the listener with their powerful melodies, the guitar dwells and the strong feelings. The album is full of emotions, sentiments , heart and create emotions. You need to let yourself , un distracted to enjoy this kind of album as it is distilled passion and spirit that has nothing to do with the generic Southern rock and rock in general that these days is all over the place.

 THUNDERMOTHER- "Heatwave"

All Female, ACDC influenced hard rock  band from Sweden comes to rock you to the ground .We may not expect the re-invention of the wheel, but we can expect some decent rock n roll songs from these dedicated rockers. The riffs are the leaders in their music. ACDC, ZZ TOP, 70ς hard rock, boogie,Southern rock, are all blended together in this ACDC female version and the result is an album that gives you the chills. "Heatwave' is a good example of a slow tempo that rises up to a volcano explosion, built around a simple,repeating riff in the best tradition of the Angus brothers. "Back to 76" is another fine example of a good twelve bar, heavy rock song with a touch of nostalgia. But their songs like "Somebody love me", "Sleep", "Purple sky" that really shake the foundations as they explore new places and give a wink at the more modern rock sound and do it pretty good. If you are a fan of bands like ACDC, STATUS QUO, SPIDER, GIRLSCHOOL, Joan Jett the girls won't disappoint you. They have their own personal style and they know how to pen a decent hard rock tune and rock the crowd.

Βαγγέλης Γεωργάκης: Σκοτεινές αναλαμπές (Oasis)

 

Ο τρόμος, ο φόβος δεν είναι αναγκαστικά ακραία φαινόμενα. Δεν αφορούν πάντα τον πιο αδύνατο, δεν αφορούν πάντα το θήραμα. Στη νέα του συγγραφική δουλειά ο Βαγγέλης Γεωργάκης, ταξιδεύει μεταξύ Η.Π.Α και Ελλάδας, σε ένα χωροχρονικό ασταθές, ανάμεσα στο σήμερα, το αύριο, αλλά και τους παράλληλους κόσμους, του φανταστικού.

Δεκατρείς ιστορίες, ο μαγικός αριθμός, που σημαδεύει την ζωή κάθε Αθηναίου που σέβεται τον εαυτό του και δακρύζει περνώντας έξω από τη Λεωφόρο. Δεκατρείς ιστορίες, που αγκαλιάζουν τη λογοτεχνία του φανταστικού από τον μυστηριώδη Πόε, τον τρομακτικό Μάστερτον, τον αινιγματικό Κίνγκ. Ένα σάουντρακ που θα περιείχε Nick Cave, Lizzy Borden, Eagles, Venom, MSG, Cathedral, Iggy Pop, Blind Guardian, ZZ top, Warlord, μεταμορφωμένο σε λέξεις και ήρωες που σέρνονται από τη μοίρα όπως στο «O Ηλίας ακολουθεί», τη δημιουργούν με το αίμα άλλων «Κάρνεγκι Χολ», τη διακωμωδούν «Ανελέητη νύχτα».

Κάποιες ιστορίες ξεχωρίζουν για την πρωτοτυπία τους όπως η τελευταία με θέμα τη σχέση πατέρα-γιού σε ένα διαφορετικό επίπεδο από το συνηθισμένο στο «Παιδί από την κόλαση», που εν πρώτοις μοιάζει με μια ιστορία βγαλμένη από b movie του Χόλυγουντ, αλλά περικλείει ένα σημαντικό κοινωνικό προβληματισμό γύρω από το ζήτημα της έκτρωσης.

Μια ιστορία βαμπιρισμού και μεταθανάτιας ζωής, μεταμορφώνεται σε ταξική πάλη και κοινωνική κριτική στο «Απόλυτο σκοτάδι», ενώ η διαφθορά και η σήψη της εν υπνώσει Ελληνικής κοινωνίας, στηλιτεύεται με ένα περίεργο ήρωα που απονέμει τη δική του δικαιοσύνη στο «Ανελέητη νύχτα». Η μητρική αγάπη, ο κόσμος των κόμικς και οι ληστές τραπεζών δημιουργούν ένα μίγμα εκρηκτικής έως θανάσιμης μητρικής θαλπωρής στο «Παράξενη ληστεία». Οικολογικές αναλαμπές στο «Κίνδυνος για το οικοσύστημα», φουτουριστικές αναφορές στον κόσμο των αλγορίθμων και των υπολογιστών στο «Χρυσό like». Μπαρ, μπλουζ, καταγώγια και παλιοί λογαριασμοί στο ροκ ν ρολ «Ιγκουάνα Λάκυ» αλλά και παιχνίδι με την κλασική μόρφωση του εκπεσόντος τέκνου του παραδείσου στο «Ο καθρέφτης του au bar».

Μία συλλογή διηγημάτων, αστικού τρόμου, σκοτεινής λογοτεχνίας από έναν συγγραφέα που χωρίς να σχετίζεται με τη ροκ μουσική, τη δημιουργεί έστω και άθελά του μέσα από λέξεις και ιστορίες, που διαβάζονται σε πολλά επίπεδα.. Μια συλλογή που θα σας κάνει να κοιμηθείτε με ανοιχτό το φως, χωρίς να είστε σίγουροι για το πού θα ξυπνήσετε την επόμενη μέρα.
